Middleton Lynx End Losing Streak2010-02-01
The Middleton Lynx celebrated Senior Night by ending their losing streak this season. The Lynx played the South Central Freeze for the second time in five days.
The Freeze won 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday night in Reedsburg. Both teams were looking forward to the rematch on Saturday. Kyanna Kiley gave the Lynx the early lead scoring an unassisted goal at the 10:09 mark of the first period. Kiley increased the lead to two with an assist from Samantha Hall, when the Lynx were able to capitalize on the powerplay with 3:20 remaining in the first. The Freeze were not about to give up and Jade Clement cut the deficit to one with an assist from Sarah Jaech with the clock showing 2:14 in the first period.
Clement was able to tie the game with 10:21 remaining in the second period. While the Freeze continued, to place shots on goal, Katie Roe was solid in the net stopping 44 of 46 shots in the game. Emily Fray had 16 saves for the Freeze.
After the game, I had the opportunity to talk to the three seniors from the Lynx. I asked what hockey has meant to them and what Coach Spencer has brought to the team this season.
#7 Holly Ryan - I started playing hockey my freshman year and this is the only team I have played for. I have made some of the best friends by playing hockey. Coach Spencer has been great. She has brought some new ideas and been very supportive throughout the season.
#11 Emily Bauer - This season has been about having fun playing hockey. This is my first season with the team and getting used to each other. Everyone has been great and very supportive throughout the year.
# 19 Kyanna Kiley - This season has been about having fun and making the most out of my senior year. Coach Spencer keeps me motivated and working hard.
